About Us

My love of dahlias started long before I picked up a trowel. It began in my nana's garden, where dahlias were bright, abundant, and always worth stopping to admire. My mum carried that love on, and somewhere along the way, it became mine too.

With formal training in horticulture and landscape design, I've found my place in growing — combining knowledge with a genuine passion for these flowers. Flora Road Flowers is a small family business, based on our property on Flora Road in Makarewa, Southland, where we grow and supply quality dahlia flowers and tubers.

As an active member of the Southland Dahlia Circle, I'm deeply connected to the local dahlia growing community — it's a wonderful group of passionate growers, and being part of it keeps me inspired and constantly learning.

Life on our Makarewa property is a busy one — raising two children, my husband lending a hand on the patch when he can, and Rusty the labrador never far behind. Fresh dahlias are supplied to florists and the public throughout the growing season, typically January through to first frost. Wholesale enquiries are welcome — get in touch to discuss supply throughout the season.

Each August we hold our annual tuber sale, giving others the chance to grow their own and catch the dahlia bug too!
